P. K. Lala, P. G. Flikkema, K. Christensen, F. D. KingNote: P. G. Flikkema is moving to another university. However, he is planning to continue active
collaboration with the Center.
2. Graduate Program
One of the most comprehensive and up-to-date graduate programs in Communications and Signal Processing
typified by courses such as
Digital communications
Digital Video and Multimedia
Digital CMOS/VLSI Design
Microprocessor based DSP
Personal and Mobile Communications
Local and Metro Area Networks
Optical Fiber Communication(A total of 25 graduate courses in this track
have been developed and are offered -- see page 7)
3. Group member and Director of the Center for Communications and Signal Processing,
V. K. Jain was awarded Distinguished Research Professorship in 1995,
and the theAskounes-Ashford Distinguished ScholarAward in 1996.
Note: Awarded once annually, the Askounes-Ashford Distinguished Scholar Award
represents the highest honor bestowed by the University of South Florida for
excellence in Research and Scholarship.
4. Research Areas
Research is underway in several of the above areas: Digital video compression,
3D reconstruction, standards conversion; VLSI for signal and image processing,
digital communications, digital subscriber loop technology, wireless communication
networks, optical fiber communications, spread-spectrum communications, digital
signal processing, speech coding and recognition, image processing, video transmission.
High-speed networks, protocols and architectures, and performance evaluation.
Hardware implementations, VLSI design, high-speed nonlinear processors.
